So here we go; my first post! Well, not really my first first, as I've been blogging for quite some time now. I started out with a couple of small ones, purely to exercise my writing and entertain myself, then I went on to start a regularly updated blog; one full of all sorts of stuff in my own native language. It was called Little Chatterbird, and it was my own cosy little online space for about two years. Then, as they say, life happened. People change, as did I, and the more I kept writing blog posts just for the sake of updating, the more I found myself to be stuck. I still loved writing, but I wasn't really getting much pleasure out of it anymore OR growing as a blogger/writer. I stopped identifying with the idea behind it and the title, and I struggled with finding new things to write about that would fit in. So, as September arrived, I made the decision to start all over. A brand new blog, hurray! You'll find out how I set about the whole process of creating this new kiddo right under the cut!
Staying with Squarespace was about the easiest decision I made when I started this new blog. It's just so pretty and, while I know and agree that Wordpress is still number one when it comes to hosting (way more plugins and possibilities, of course), Squarespace is a lot easier to work with in my experience. I did involve a third-party for my new domain, though, as it was simply a whole lot cheaper.
Picking a name is never easy and takes a lot of brainstorming. It just has to sound right, you know? AND fit your area of blogging. I came up with A Life Less Ordinary a couple of days after I decided to quit my previous blog, and instantly fell in love with it. Of course, so it goes; this name was already taken (by someone who hasn't blogged in years and hasn't made it available again... Don't you just hate it when that happens?!). At first I tried to come up with something else, but all those ideas just never sounded right. And so, after a lot of pondering, I took the jump and just added the dash to it. I'll just have to make it worth typing in the dash now, won't I? ;-)
THE LOOK & FEEL
I rarely make moodboards, but I must say that after this one I'm totally hooked. They can really give you a general idea about what your blog should look like, which colours fit well together according to your own taste AND they can inspire you when you start taking your own pictures. This was the result:
Like I said, the 1st of September was a turning point for me. It marks the end of the summer and even vacation (although this working girl did NOT benefit from that at all) and it just felt like the right time for a change. Also, I got promoted at work and discovered that the apartment I had my eye on was definitely the one for me (I'm counting down to December, yay!). In other words: my life is finally shifting towards a direction that I really like, and I hope that this blog can grow out to be part of the whole 'growing' thing. That is why the next and final chapter is...
I decided to stop writing in my own language (Dutch) and switch (back) to English. It just expands your reading audience about a gazillion times, plus I missed the language so much. I was a bit out of practice as well, so please; forgive my mistakes if you come across them. ;-)
So there it is: I launched this brand new blog! No better day to do it, too, because there's this quote by F. Scott Fitzgerald I have always loved;
Have a great first day of Autumn, and please, let's have our first little chat in the comments below. Let me know what you think!
