The sun is out, the sky is blue... Well, at least for now, because we all know that around these parts, there's bound to be a couple of Spring Showers coming our way. Luckily, there are a few fun films released or to be released that I'm looking forward to quite a lot. Here are the six favourites I can't wait to go see in my local theatre!
T2: TRAINSPOTTING || PLAYING NOW
All right, all right. Technically this one (and the next) is not a 'Spring' movie, I know, but it might as well be as I'm still trying to guess when I am finally going to get to see this one. The number of screenings in Belgium is pretty down-sized, and my local cinema is not even playing it. Throw in the fact that Trainspotting is one of my favourite films in the history of filmmaking and the huge soft spot I have for everything Ewan McGregor does, and you must get how disappointed I am right now. I'm making it a number one priority to see it as soon as possible, though.
KONG: SKULL ISLAND || PLAYING NOW
Another not-really-spring-released film, but hey-- The weather is just too good right now to still call it winter, so there. Still counts for me. The biggest reason I really want to see Kong: Skull Island is because it looks like a treat for the average, fun-seeking moviegoer, you know? Just an impressive, action-packed, star-studded blockbuster is something I can really enjoy watching in cinemas. Also, that seemingly vintage poster and the hints of an equally old school soundtrack in the trailer? Consider me curious.
BEAUTY AND THE BEAST || MARCH 17 (BELGIUM)
I've been counting down to this one for over a year, and I'm pretty sure I'm not the only one. The cast, for starters, is so impressive (and again: McGregor) plus I'm really looking forward to seeing AND hearing this new take on one of my favourite Disney films from when I was a child. I recently noticed they threw the entire new soundtrack on Youtube, but I'm pretty proud of myself for not caving when it comes to too many spoilers. Despite the pretty extensive trailers, I at least want to be a tiny bit surprised when I finally hear those classic songs in their new coat, don't you? Let's hope it's a good one! ;-)
GUARDIANS OF THE GALAXY VOL.2 || APRIL 26 (BELGIUM)
The first Guardians Of The Galaxy film was probably one of the best (if not THE best) Marvel film to come out the last couple of years, and that's something considering how many there's actually been until now (gazillions, so it feels). It was hilarious, awesome to look at, with a perfect cast and an amazing soundtrack. It's no wonder us geeks are looking forward to the sequel so much, because the first couple of previews promise nothing short of the same. Only now, there's Baby Groot. And that can only turn out great, I'm sure.
ALIEN: COVENANT || MAY 17 (BELGIUM)
Ah, the return of Ridley Scott! I usually don't really enjoy being scared off my rocker in a cinema -or any other- seat, but cross horror with science fiction and I'm in. Mind you, I wasn't all that impressed with this film's prequel Prometheus. Sure, it wasn't bad, and the visuals were amazing along with Michael Fassbender's brilliant performance, but to say my hopes are a liiiiittle bit higher for this one is a real understatement.
WONDER WOMAN || MAY 31 (BELGIUM)
The same goes for the last Spring film on the list. I really hope they don't screw up this one, and DC still has a lot to prove when it comes to films, for me personally. We are finally getting a Wonder Woman film, a female superhero at the centre of attention, so the expectations are bound to be high. The first few images are promising, though, and the WWI setting looks pretty cool. Fingers crossed!
That's about it for Spring, as far as my list goes! There's a lot of good ones heading towards us this Summer, as well, but that's content for another future film blog post. ;-)
Q: which films are you looking forward to in these next couple of months?
