Cat care has always been something I’ve wanted to write and talk about more, especially since I adopted two of my very own nearly two (is it two already?! My Gosh.) years ago. That’s why, a little while ago, the idea of Cat Talk just popped into my head, and although I've already moved a couple of posts I’d already written featuring our feline friends to the page, this will be the first official post, a ceremonious opening, if you will. And where better to start than with an introduction to this new topic, the reasons behind it and a(nother) meet and greet with my very own partners in crime.
Why Write About Cats
The simple answer? Because I have ‘em. And learning about what makes them tick is something I consider fun knowledge. The longer, more complicated answer? Because cats have always been close to my heart, and I think that taking good care of them is important. Would I call myself a cat person? Not really, rather an animal person in general, but I DID grow up with them until we couldn’t have them anymore because my Dad grew highly allergic. Out of sight perhaps, but never out of mind, and so I started looking to adopt the second I knew I had the apartment. And look who I found.
Enter Strummer and Leia
And a rather unplanned entrance at that. You see, I am a huge supporter of the “adopt, don’t shop” slogan and was filling in forms for a couple of nearby shelters when these two got into play. A typical story about why you should always spay and neuter (really, just do it) your cats, especially BEFORE even thinking about letting them outside (of which I’m actually not a fan either, more on that soon). One day, one tomcat, and bam. Unwanted kittens. Long story short; I fell in love the minute I met them, was convinced they would end up on the street or in a shelter eventually if no one wanted them anyway and there you go. Enter Strummer and Leia. I’m still a firm believer in that slogan, though, and would’ve definitely adopted through a shelter if a friend of mine hadn’t brought these - quite wonderful, really - kittens under my attention. Curious about those two? You can find a mini-bio on the Cat Talk Homepage.
What To Expect
Oh, a lot. From cat care tips and fun facts, to random adventures and diary entries. I have no idea whether it’ll be a weekly, monthly or even couple-of-monthly thing yet, but brace yourselves for some posts infused with an undying love for cats, mine and every other.
Do you have cats? Let’s talk about them in the comments!
Tell me anything. ;-)
