Hello and happy Tuesday, dear readers! I have another Get To Know post for you today, and this time it's all about one of my favourite categories: the quest for happiness. Read more under the cut and find out what the bleep I mean by a spiritual master, who's mine (although the picture above might already give that away), and how to find yours.
Honestly, it's just a geeky way to say lifestyle. This category is and will be about finding ways to live your life as awesomely as possible through tips, lessons learned and personal experiences. In this little blog nook, I want to share all sorts of things: from funny to serious, from planning the sh** out of things to learning to just let it go.

I Get By With A Little Help
Because Lifestyle is one of my favourite topics to write about, I do a lot of research on it. And while I occasionally have a rare epiphany of my own when it comes to living life, I mostly let myself be inspired by books and - especially - podcasts. That's why most of these posts will in fact be inspired by others, which I'll definitely always mention. For example, Gretchen Rubin's HAPPIER podcast has been a gift to me when it comes to little life hacks, ideas and tips that make me - well - happier. In fact, the whole 'finding your spiritual master' thing is a topic of hers and got me through a tough episode a while ago. On to that subject:
Finding Your Spiritual Master
The first time I heard the term 'spiritual master' I sort of thought it was super cheesy, but the more Gretchen talked about it in the podcast, the more I started thinking about who mine could be. But first and foremost: what is a spiritual master? Well, you could just say it's your favourite, inspirational person. A person you love to study and learn from. Whose great qualities you want to imitate and adapt as your own. Who inspires you to do better. You know, the whole what would *insert master here* do idea. Now, I'm not saying a spiritual master should be perfect in every way. Churchill, Winfrey, ... They - probably, not sure about Oprah there - all have faults as well (it's only human!), but it's their good qualities that inspire other people to do better, and that's what it's all about.
In the end, it didn't take me long to find out who mine was. I have had an undying love for the brilliant Carrie Fisher for almost my entire life, starting as an obsession with the incredibly cool and badass "well, somebody has to save our skins" Space Princess, to the woman behind the character, who just so happened to be a brilliant writer, mental health advocate and so unapologetic about the part of her life that was just an utter mess that you cannot NOT admire her. I've listened (yes, listened. Not really a fan of audiobooks, but when Carrie reads her own words... Heaven) to her books a gazillion times and she still makes me laugh at one corner in the book, and hit me with an inspiring, empowering quote around the other. So, yes, you bet I cried the day we lost her. Something she would have found quite weird and would have had a snappy comment about, I'm sure. The thought of which just made me smile again, so there.
Q: who would your spiritual master be? Please post them, I would love to find out!
