If there's one thing I could really do all day, it's switching up the little interior details of my apartment. I really do love decorating, and while I certainly can't say no to any kind of interior shopping when it comes my way, I probably love decorating with what I already have even more. From geeky collectables to having your favourite memories close by, here's a couple of things I truly love putting all across my apartment.
GEEKY COLLECTABLES & OLD TOYS
Admit it, you have a whole box full of toys you can't bear to throw away or even give away, haven't you? Well, I have. And so I decided I might as well utilise them for something fun: putting a personal touch to my interior. That's how the Hagrid action figure I had lying about in a box finally ended up where he belonged (on top of my beloved bookshelf, of course), and you can find, amongst other things, a little Lego Ron on a different shelf, a couple of dinosaur figurines hidden in my plants, and a douchebag jar topped with a DIY Psyduck lid. I dare you to find them all if you ever visit here.
And then there's my geeky collectables, the immensely popular Funko Pops in particular. Most people leave them inside the box or in a safe display cupboard, and while I certainly have some of them in a showcase, I have given some of my favourites a more fitting spot as well. You've already spotted Meeko in the pic above, on my desk at all times because he just truly is the cutest one I own, but then there's also Andy Dwyer on my DVD shelf, Belle on the bookcase, and Flik from A Bug's Life has been my spider plant's loyal companion ever since I got him.
They don't all have to be organised neatly on a shelf, you know. For example, I absolutely love coffee table books, but even the ones that are not considered as such can be put somewhere within reach. Especially the pretty ones, or the ones you can just grab and read a couple of inspiring and/or funny pages of whenever you feel like it.
I. AM. A. PLANT. ADDICT. I truly am. There are plants everywhere and rightly so. They liven up a room instantly and are even healthy to be around. If you can keep them alive, that is. On the wishlist: all the ferns and Calathea species I can get my hands on, and I'm still searching vigorously for a prayer plant. I can't seem to find one anywhere!
POSTERS & PRINTS
Well, if you're as big a film fan as yours truly, you're going to want to reflect that on your walls, aren't you? My absolute favourites hanging around the apartment are the minimalist prints of a couple of my all-time favourite films by Law & Moore, and the old school The Empire Strikes Back poster I had on my wishlist the minute I started planning moving in.
Major cheeseball alert, because, yes, I definitely am one. I love putting them everywhere I can think of, from a poster featuring all my favourite Instagram posts from the previous year to crafting the cords I wore when I was a leader at the Chiro (something similar to Scouts, if you're reading this and you're not from around here) into a plant hanger, and putting stones originating from Scotland and Brighton, and the pretty, miniature Gayer-Anderson Cat I bought at the British Museum into a bell jar and turning it into a mood light. I love treasuring those little memories and will keep on adding more, that's for sure.
Frames, light boxes, letter boards,... Things you can adjust to whatever mood you're in, or whichever holiday is coming up, or... Just things that allow you to remove and add whatever you want to it are really awesome. Especially when they're put somewhere where you need inspiration, like a workspace!
Don't you just love it when something looks cool or cute AND is super useful at the same time? I do. Do you have a favourite mug that's actually too pretty to be in the cupboard most of the time? Pen holder. Or small flower pot! Found the prettiest of stationary? Don't put them in drawers, stack 'em neatly on your desk for everyone (especially you, so you don't forget to actually use them) to see, or let them stand up against the wall and on your desk as a gorgeous backdrop. Cute kitchenware? Again: avoid the cupboard. Organise it in the right way and your kitchen, shelves, or whatever else will look like they came right off of some beautiful Pinterest board. ;)
What are your favourite decorative pieces you have at home? I would love it if you shared a picture of them!
