They’re everywhere these days, aren’t they? A colourful and pretty arrangement of inspirational, motivational words for every thought or doubt that crosses our mind, some more thought-through or interpretable than the other, but well-meant nonetheless. Personally? I love collecting the ones that speak to me on a WORDS board on Pinterest and occasionally share them on here, and that’s what I wanted to do today (you know, new year and all). However, while I was scrolling through the whole thing, picking out the ones I thought would help me take on 2019, I found that there were a couple that just didn’t sound as good to me as they used to and decided to include those as well, just to illustrate how personally interpretable those supposed ‘inspirational’ quotes can be. Take a look at my favourite six AND the two I’m choosing to ignore this year in this post!
THOUGHTS FOR 2019
AND SAYING NOPE TO THESE:
Because I’ve too often used this one as an excuse to skip on things that would have made this shell of mine a little less thick, would have squeezed in another unforgettable moment into the already quite memorable twenty-eighteen. Don’t get me wrong, I am still quite proud of that happy bubble I made all on my own, but it would definitely not hurt to get out of it more. So, nope, I’m not saying no to taking the necessary amount of time off (nobody should, take my word for it), but I AM saying nope to this one if it pops up in my mind whenever an opportunity to simply live more! comes around, no matter how tempting or comfortable it is to hang around in the previously mentioned bubble instead. After all, my word of the year IS DARE, you know. ;)
Because, unfortunately, we have come to a time in which we should worry. At least a little bit. Worry about where this world is going. Who’s in charge. What our part in all of this is. And a time in which we ought to dare (there’s that word again) and speak our mind instead of just waiting for it all to blow over because, quite frankly, I’m afraid - I worry - it won’t. I’ve never been that secretive about my opinion on lots of things, but now is the time to speak up for them more than ever. So this year, I AM saying no to just letting things be and letting the conversation die awkwardly whenever it comes to human rights, animal rights, the environment, etc. I want to add my voice to many and think along with them, in a civilised manner. If only to keep that so-called peace in the running for all people alike. Present and future. Because right now we’re swinging towards the past, whether you like it or not.
Q: What’s your mantra for 2019? Know of a cliché quote you’d rather ignore this year?
Love, always, and good luck in the new year!
