With voting day behind us here in Belgium and the results being just that little bit too scary to my liking, I could do with a smile or two today. And whenever that happens, I find that turning to my Calvin and Hobbes collection always does the trick. There’s just something so recognisable about Watterson’s work that either makes you laugh because you’ve thought the exact same thing this way too clever 6-year-old has, or comforts you because you’re clearly not the only OR first one to recognise there’s something quite wrong with certain things. Don’t believe me? Take a look at some of my favourites!Read More
From Star Wars Day to Cartoonist Day, the perfect opportunity for me to put the spotlight on my brother for once. He's been drawing since - well - forever, making it pretty obvious for me who got dealt the biggest share of talent here ever since he grabbed a pencil for the first time. He's still perfecting his style, but has grown immensely thanks to an education in Animation he's currently attending at the Rits in Brussels. But - hey - let's just let him tell you all about his art, shall we?Read More
Guess what coincidentally turned up in my mailbox today? That's right, a couple of free entrance opportunities for the best geeky convention Belgium has to offer. What's more, they're not regular tickets, but priority tickets! Oh, and they can totally be yours, so read on.
But what is FACTS, exactly? Oh, I don't know... It's only the biggest convention in the BENELUX and one of my personal favourite events every year. It takes place this weekend in Flanders Expo in Ghent, and offers loads of fun for geeks of all sorts. From an unimaginable amount of merchandise, Q&A's and photo opportunities with iconic actors, fan villages filled with impressive props and sets from your favourite movies and television shows, to a cosplay competition and enough comics to last you a lifetime of reading; it's simply a great place to be amongst fellow-geeks and a whole lot of fun, I promise!
Who's coming? I am! Just kidding, although I wouldn't mind meeting you there and having a drink together while talking about our favourite encounters and the things we've already spent (a massive amount of) money on, but I'm talking pretty amazing guests here. Samwise Gamgee, no more than two (!) Doctors, one of Buffy's besties, Xander, The frickin' Mountain and The Hoff himself. And if that doesn't convince you: there will be amazing - legendary, really - comic book artists and more exhibitors than you can count; all ready to provide you with a lot of geeky trinkets and memorabilia to fill your home with.
How about those priority tickets? A priority ticket will get you in on either Saturday or Sunday (your choice), from 9am. Yup, that's one hour before doors officially open. This means you'll be among the first to enter the halls, which is especially interesting when you want to get in line for something special from one of the artist guests, for example. This is not obligatory, though, you can enter whenever you want.
So how can you get them? Easy. Give A Life Less Ordinary a thumbs up on Facebook and send me an email containing your name, email address, the subject "Geeky Giveaway" and a bit of enthusiastic banter, of course. That's all it takes! There's four of those tickets, so please; don't let them go to waste. ;-)
See you there, right? Just don't rat me out to the Wizard Cops, will you.
Disclaimer: FACTS is not providing these tickets directly, but through a family member who won them and who was so kind to give them to me for a giveaway. Lucky me!
