The little ones have been with me for over a month, and I think it's safe to say that life with cats isn't always sunshine and rainbows. Luckily, most of the time it actually is pretty awesome, and to give you an idea of what I AND they have been up to, here's a post about what a new, cat-filled life is like!Read More
Ah, Monday. The first day of the week, and accidentally one on which I'm usually off work. No reason to be jealous about that, however, because it also happens to be Chores Day for me. You know, those little tasks you already sort of did while living with your parents and somehow seem so much bigger once you're living alone and work weekends? After one month of getting used to them, I can safely say that while I still find it difficult to start (doesn't everyone?), I've at least found some ways to have a bit of fun while getting through them.
LISTEN TO MUSIC
Whether it's to give new albums a try or add some dance moves to my sweeping; I always have some music on while I clean the apartment. I even think this is my favourite thing about doing chores: adding a soundtrack to it.
SIP FROM A GLASS OF WINE OR A DELUXE COFFEE WHILE YOU WORK
It'll certainly cheer you up a bit. That, AND it's sort of film-worthy, don't you think? Set the scene!
PUT ON A BINGE-ABLE TV SERIES IN THE BACKGROUND
This has become a habit of mine every time I do the dishes, actually. Now, it's no secret that us, women, are awesome at multi-tasking, but I find that something easy to follow, binge-able or even old episodes you've already seen are the best match for a job well done.
GIVE IT YOUR ALL
Tie up your hair like Rosie the Riveter, challenge yourself to do a couple of tasks in a certain amount of time, etc. Make it fun, make it a race! You might even burn some calories while you're at it. Win-win!
USE YOUR IMAGINATION
I used to pretend I was in a film while doing chores as a kid. You know, a maid in the palace, Cinderella, a first mate on a Pirate ship, ... That sort of stuff. Some imagination, huh? I don't think I've changed much, either, because I still think it's the perfect opportunity to rack your brain a bit. Whether it's internally brainstorming ideas for the blog or something entirely different: my mind's at its best when I'm doing something as repetitive as chores.
Rewards work for everyone, don't they? Make your favourite dessert right after you finish your chores, treat yourself to something special while buying your groceries, take a nice bath at the end of the day,... Whatever you prefer!
THINK OF THE RESULT
Getting to relax (and claiming that reward above) in a clean, tidy and pretty environment is so much more fun, I promise. Otherwise, all those things you could've done but didn't, they keep wandering into your mind at random, so you won't get rid of them until you just go do!
How do you make chores more fun?
In between all the preparations for tonight, I wanted to take the time to wish you all an (early) Happy New Year. Above all else, I want to thank you guys for discovering this blog, and/or making the switch along with me when I said goodbye to the old blog and started this one. Things have been rather quiet on here because of that big move, but I promise you I'll find my footing again soon, hopefully with more and better posts coming your way as we start this brand new 2017.
Now, there's no bigger tradition during this time of year that the infamous New Year Resolutions, is there? You see them popping up on nearly every blog or profile, both clichés and genuine good intentions, inspiring all of us to do the same. But, hey, I know myself, and I know that making a long list of resolutions in no way leads to achieving them (as in: not at all, haha!). So that's why I'll just say this, to myself and to you: don't set up too many goals. Life is just too unexpected and so unwritten when it comes to leading the 'perfect' one. Just try to live a tiny bit better every day than the day before. Be kind. Be brave when it comes to your dreams and passions. Keep doing what you love with whom you love, and never for one moment forget that there's still a lot of good in this world, and we're the only ones who can keep it that way. Let's just maybe even kick it up a notch, shall we?
Have a great time tonight and see you in the New Year!
