It's Thursday AND going-for-a-run-day! So instead of the usual On Repeat post I thought I'd share a bit of my secret running soundtrack with you. Curious? Find out what kind of music motivates me to get to that finish line below!
The first thing I realised after my first 'Start to Run' lesson a couple of years ago was that no matter what other people - even pros - sum up as THE ideal song to run to, it isn't going to work if you think that song is, well... Utter crap in your own opinion. For example: I made it to the second Ultratop hit before calling it quits and returned home to start making my own playlists. So by all means; look for inspiration online or elsewhere, but the most important thing is to consider your own taste, as well.
I, for one, absolutely love running to up-tempo classics and the tunes of The Jam and - especially - The Clash. Pretty logical when that last one is your favourite band, but I think their tempo fits mine perfectly and there's that tiny bit of anger in it that's just enough to fuel my determination. So there's that old school punk, and then there's this: I have absolutely no idea what it is, but those typical indie sounds the likes of which The Verve, Suede and even The Vaccines and Catfish and The Bottlemen produce are real motivators for me. What can I say, I (almost) only run with Brits.
Except maybe when it comes to my guilty pleasures... The Prodigy (actually still British, ha!) are in my playlist, whereas I wouldn't say I'd listen to them daily, as are the few current 'hits' I like (categorising these under GP, because I'm generally an old school kind of gal). The Weeknd, Stromae, Twenty One Pilots, Years and Years and Timberlake are currently present, but tend to change more often than my all-time favourites.
This is probably the weirdest one that really does it for me: film (or sometimes tv) soundtracks. The more epic, the better. Pretty handy when you've got an app that wants you to believe you're right in the middle of a Zombie Apocalypse, actually. ;-)
What's in your perfect running or workout playlist?
