Today is International Women’s Day and I bet you’ve already picked up on that. Darn right, too, because the louder and prouder we are about this, the better to finally close that gap entirely, send those ridiculously high beauty standards to the past where they (never) belonged (either) and support all women across the world. Yes, including yourself. So, today of all the days of the year on which I appreciate and admire these women in particular, I want to acknowledge them. To show them that not only are they ‘enough’, they are so much more than that.
From Winter right on to Valentine’s Day; it’s no secret that this time of the year can be pretty stressful, unpleasant, and downright annoying to those of us who are single, especially for those who have been for a long time. I’m right there with ya, peeps, and although I’ve mostly depicted myself as a happy single, girl-power-and-all kind of person, there are definitely moments of loneliness, often accompanied by feeling hopeless and being absolutely sure that this is it and I’ll just end up alone and that’s that. I’m absolutely sure I’m not the only one, and those are just moments that we have to get through to come out stronger, so I’ve summed up a couple of things that have helped me, and will hopefully help you when you have a case of the ol’ Valentine’s Day blues.
Hello there and greetings from my sofa, where I am currently vigorously trying to rest and banish some cliché winter-y germs from my body. I’m hardly ever really really sick, but I must say - while I’d definitely prefer doing this while 100% healthy - I’m actually embracing the whole thing because, after only one day, the good was already beginning to compensate for the bad. By good, I mean that it’s actually been rather nice having the time to just curl up with a book and some tea (regardless of the fact that I fall asleep every hour or so), and because I DID wish to read more in twenty-nineteen I’m just going to go ahead and say - well - good timing, germs. I’m currently well into the latest Shadowhunter novel by Cassandra Clare (with Good Omens ready for takeover because I wanted to reread it ahead of the tv series), and - since it’s going so smoothly, you know - I have a whole list ready so I can’t wait to stick my nose into those as well. The challenge? Finish at least twelve. You’ll soon notice there are a lot more on the list, though, so without further ado: here it is!
Happy Friday, everyone, and welcome to a new round of random facts about the blogger. Why? Because, apparently and according to a Days of the Year website I often check for inspiration (and, well, the constant need to know useless things), today was Trivia Day! The point? To get to know each other just that little bit better along the way. And - ok, yes- I love fun Q&A’s. Can’t help it. Ready? Let’s go!
They’re everywhere these days, aren’t they? A colourful and pretty arrangement of inspirational, motivational words for every thought or doubt that crosses our mind, some more thought-through or interpretable than the other, but well-meant nonetheless. Personally? I love collecting the ones that speak to me on a WORDS board on Pinterest and occasionally share them on here, and that’s what I wanted to do today (you know, new year and all). However, while I was scrolling through the whole thing, picking out the ones I thought would help me take on 2019, I found that there were a couple that just didn’t sound as good to me as they used to and decided to include those as well, just to illustrate how personally interpretable those supposed ‘inspirational’ quotes can be. Take a look at my favourite six AND the two I’m choosing to ignore this year in this post!
Hi, sweeties! I took some time off blogging last week, mostly to fully take in and fully enjoy those first real cold and cozy days we’ve finally been having, AND to focus on learning my lines for the play we’re due to perform in a couple of weeks (fingers crossed!). So that’s one thing I’ve been practicing for lately, and then there’s photography. Now, you have people who love - and are really good at - capturing other people and, well, I just don’t think I’m one of them. Nature photography, on the other hand, is something I’ve always loved looking at so attempting it myself was just a matter of time once I finally got my hands on (the budget for, ha) a decent camera. I absolutely love practicing and spent the majority of our weekend away taking snapshots of every pretty little thing I could find. Posting all of those pictures would be mad, so instead, I picked out 10 favourites I’m quite proud of taking as a greenie. Take a look, tell me what you think and give me tips if you have ‘em!
With voting day behind us here in Belgium and the results being just that little bit too scary to my liking, I could do with a smile or two today. And whenever that happens, I find that turning to my Calvin and Hobbes collection always does the trick. There’s just something so recognisable about Watterson’s work that either makes you laugh because you’ve thought the exact same thing this way too clever 6-year-old has, or comforts you because you’re clearly not the only OR first one to recognise there’s something quite wrong with certain things. Don’t believe me? Take a look at some of my favourites!
Don't you just love it when a song hits you right in the feels? Stabs you in the heart, moves you to tears, whether it's because it's about something sad and recognisable or it's just plain and simple, incredibly pretty? Well, I do. I find there's something so comforting about listening to such songs, and I always feel sort of like I'm the happiest I can get; blissfully lost in the moment in which I hear them, either singing along, sitting in my favourite chair with a book in my lap, doing the dishes or even swaying across my living room. I love these 'life is good' moments so much that I decided to start on a playlist that features the songs that move me in that way. And what better day than Sunday to start sharing those with you?
And a couple of not that need-to-know but still-fun-to-know-anyway things! Why? Because there are more and more people visiting this little blog (hurrah!) and blogging is supposed to be all about getting to know people, isn't it? So click through for a little bit more about the girl behind this blog, aka yours truly. Hi!
From a podcast discovery to my new favourite picture editing app: here's what I've been loving the past week!
